High School teacher ( French, Italian and Latin)

Self-taught artist and designer of jewelry.

As a high school teacher - in French, Italian and Latin - I often wore black clothes as a “uniform” in order to divert the attention of the students from my person. But when at length it became too depressing, I started to create jewelry, theme jewelry, relating to the subjects being treated: fairy tales, literature, grammar, role plays, culture, art, films, or study trips. The raw materials of the jewelry were typically objects of everyday use which had been “liberated” from their original function, transformed, and now returned with a new life and identity as pieces of jewelry. The creative process itself - from idea to finished jewel - became a passion that just grew and grew, until at last I grew out of my teaching job and started as a full-time jewelry designer. Just as the black clothes were the startof my jewelry production, so the little black dress (LBD) is the starting point for nearly every woman getting ready for a night out. Easy, but also a little boring.

That gave me the inspiration for creating my DONNA UNICA jewelry. Fundamentally, there is only one piece made of each design. However, specially selected designs may be reproduced up to a maximum of six copies, but all with small points of difference so that they can still be regarded as UNICA. The woman who wears the necklace will feel unique. Every piece has been worked with the greatest care. Its creation has given me great pleasure, and much thought has gone into making sure it is pleasant to wear both on the bare skin and on delicate materials. As each jewel has its own personality, they have all received a name, drawn in particular from the Romance world: the unbroken line going back to my time as a language teacher. As a logo I chose Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” who is a prime example of a DONNA UNICA.

An essential reason for only creating one-of-a-kind jewelry is that every piece gives rise to a new idea. I therefore have no time at all to repeat myself but must press on… far too excited about the unpredictable result. For creating jewelry is for me an intense passion.
